Süleyman CENGİZCİ

Doctorate

Middle East Technical University - Rice University (postdoc)

Master's

Middle East Technical University

Bachelor's

Nigde Omer Halisdemir University

Süleyman was born in 1989 in Antalya and graduated from Antalya Metin–Nuran Çakallıklı Anatolian High School in 2007. He earned his bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Nigde Omer Halisdemir University between 2008 and 2012 and his master's degree in Applied Mathematics from Nevsehir University, Institute of Natural Sciences, in 2014. During his master's studies, he also took courses from the Department of Engineering Sciences at Middle East Technical University (METU) Faculty of Engineering.

In 2014, he was admitted to the PhD program in the Scientific Computing Department at METU, Institute of Applied Mathematics (IAM). In the same year, he obtained a Pedagogical Formation Certificate in Secondary Mathematics Education from the Faculty of Educational Sciences at Akdeniz University. He received his Ph.D. in 2022 with the thesis entitled "Stabilized Finite Element Simulations of Multispecies Hypersonic Flows in Thermochemical Nonequilibrium."

Between March and September 2022, Süleyman worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Rice University, where he focused on turbocharger turbine flow simulations using Isogeometric Analysis (IGA) methods. Following this, in early 2023, he was awarded the TÜBİTAK-2219 Postdoctoral Research Fellowship to conduct his second postdoctoral research at the Mathematical Institute of Oxford University. His research in this project focuses on stabilized finite element solutions for convection-dominated multicomponent flows.

His research spans numerical and asymptotic approaches in computational mathematics and computational mechanics, with a particular focus on solving real-world problems, especially in computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Recently, he has concentrated on combining numerical methods with machine learning techniques to develop innovative solutions in these fields.

Süleyman began his academic career as a Research Assistant in the Department of Economics at Antalya Bilim University (ABU) in 2014. From late 2017 onwards, he worked as a Lecturer in the Computer Programming Program (BTP) at the ABU Vocational School (MYO) and in the Department of Business Administration in the ABU Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences. Between September 2023 and December 2024, he served as an Assistant Professor in the same departments. As of December 2024, he earned the title of Associate Professor and currently continues his academic duties at the ABU Vocational School Computer Programming Program and the ABU Faculty of Engineering.
