Academics from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Antalya Bilim University have contributed to a new academic publication that enriches the interior architecture discipline. Published by İdealKent, the book titled Fundamentals of Interior Architecture is a comprehensive resource edited by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shirin IZADPANAH, Asst. Prof. Dr. Buket ŞENOĞLU, Lec. Dr. Lecturer Melda YILDIZ, and MSc. Interior Architect Ekin ELİNÇ.

Interior architecture is defined as a profession that blends aesthetic sensitivity with technical knowledge, focusing on human-centered and interdisciplinary approaches. However, it is often mistakenly equated with decoration in popular culture, which overshadows the true essence of the profession. In this context, Fundamentals of Interior Architecture serves as a guiding resource for students newly entering the field, individuals interested in the discipline, and young professionals. The book covers a broad spectrum of topics, from the historical development of interior architecture to fundamental design principles, spatial perception to aesthetics, and ergonomics to sustainable solutions. It also includes in-depth discussions on modeling techniques, internship experiences, and the increasing influence of social media in the profession—essential components of interior architecture education.

Prepared with contributions from experts in the field, this work presents technical knowledge in an accessible language, combining the theoretical and practical dimensions of interior architecture. Aiming to offer a conscious and informed start to the profession, the publication highlights that interior architecture is not only an aesthetic practice but also a discipline grounded in scientific principles.

We sincerely congratulate all contributing author-academics for this valuable work and express our heartfelt thanks for their contributions.
