SUMMER COURSE IN THE ANCIENT CITY OF PATARA

From 9 to 12 April 2018 the “Course on Spatial Science Technologies in Archaeology” was organised by Antalya Bilim University and Akdeniz University. Lecturer from six different universities, students from 12 different universities as well as representatives of the related sector participated the course (45 persons). In addition, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism sent two of its members.     

Participants could complete courses both in theory in practice like “Basic Terms of Archaeology”, “Building Analysis”, “Building Surveying”, “Photogrammetry”, “Remote Sensing Tools” (laser scanning etc.) and “Civil Science”, which is very new in our land. On the field data acquisition was realised by using remote sensing tools. Furthermore, participants could make practice in the field of measuring instruments. On the 3rd day of the course participants learned data processing in practice. They came back to Antalya after visiting several ancient cities.      

This course was implemented due to the permission of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as well as to support of Chamber of Survey and Cadastre Engineers (Antalya) and of representatives of the sector. On this issue an international symposium will be organized in 2019.

The members of the organizing committee of this event were Dr. Havva İşkan Işık (President of the Patara Excavations), Dr. Nusret Demir (Department of Space Sciences and Technology, Akdeniz University) and Dr. Mustafa Koçak (Department of Architecture, Antalya Bilim University).
