Excursion to Mushroom producers in Korkuteli, Antalya

As part of the Agricultural Production course, on April 9th, 2019, students from our Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department went on a field trip to various family owned and operated mushroom agribusinesses in Korkuteli district. Students learned about cultivation of fresh white button, oyster and chestnut mushroom varieties.  They also saw all stages of mushroom growing from the inoculated compost with spawn to ready-to pick/harvest mushrooms, which has been carried out in separate rooms that require different temperatures and humidities. Students were lucky to take home some fresh mushrooms as gifts from each mushroom grower they visited. This inspired the students to try different mushroom recipes at home.
