Awareness Program on Online Betting and Gambling Addiction Held at Antalya Bilim University
Antalya Bilim University held an awareness program titled, “The Hidden Face of Online Betting and Gambling: Addiction and Legal Consequences.” The event was coordinated by the Antalya Bilim University Directorate of Sport, Culture and Art and Yeşilay Student Club, and carried out within the scope of the protocol signed between Antalya Bilim University, the Antalya Regional Directorate of the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications and the Antalya Branch of Yeşilay.
Among the participants of the program were Emine ŞEN TUNÇ, Vice Rector of Antalya Bilim University, and Yusuf Zeki BÜYÜKÖZER, the Branch Manager of the Antalya Regional Directorate of the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications. Attracting significant interest, the event emphasized the increased risk of addiction due to the widespread accessibility of online betting and gambling on digital platforms. The program also highlighted the negative effects of addiction on academic performance, social relationships, financial stability and mental health.
The sessions addressed early indicators of addiction, risky behavioral patterns, preventive and support mechanisms, as well as available counseling services. The participants were reminded that online betting and gambling extend far beyond being an individual problem, leading to serious consequences for families, communities and society. The program also stressed the significance of awareness-raising initiatives and inter-institutional collaboration in fighting addiction. The segment of the program focusing on “legal consequences” informed the participants about the legal aspect of online betting and gambling, possible legal sanctions and risks.
The program concluded with Vice Rector Emine ŞEN TUNÇ presenting plaques and flowers to the speakers.
