Joint strength in the fight against addiction: Protocol signed between the Directorate of Communications, Antalya Bilim University, and Yeşilay

A “Cooperation Protocol for Combating Addiction” signing ceremony and press conference were held at Antalya Bilim University (ABU). The protocol was signed between the Republic of Türkiye Directorate of Communications Antalya Regional Directorate, Antalya Bilim University, and the Turkish Green Crescent Society (Yeşilay) Antalya Branch.
The signing ceremony took place at the ABU Senate Meeting Hall. The protocol was signed by Ahmet Uzun, Antalya Regional Director of the Directorate of Communications; Osman Zeki Özcan, President of the Yeşilay Antalya Branch; and Prof. Dr. Semih Ekercin, Rector of Antalya Bilim University.
Within the scope of the protocol, multi-dimensional activities targeting university students and young people will be carried out in a coordinated manner. These activities include training programs, awareness-raising meetings, public awareness campaigns, academic events, and field studies.
Following the official entry into force of the protocol, a comprehensive Action Plan will be prepared to ensure the rapid implementation of these activities.
Speaking at the press conference, Prof. Dr. Semih Ekercin emphasized that combating addiction should be approached not only through prohibitive measures but also through supportive strategies that empower young people.
Highlighting the importance of the quality of young people’s leisure time, he stated:
“One of the most effective ways to protect young people from addiction is to guide their free time toward productive, meaningful, and value-adding activities. A university environment enriched with sports, arts, cultural activities, volunteer work, and academic club events serves as one of the strongest safeguards against the risk of addiction. We see this protocol as an important step that will both raise awareness among our youth and provide them with safer and healthier alternatives.”
Prof. Dr. Ekercin expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders, particularly the Directorate of Communications Antalya Regional Directorate and the Yeşilay Antalya Branch, for their contributions. He stated that Antalya Bilim University will continue to support initiatives that enhance the physical, mental, and social well-being of young people.
