Organized by Antalya Bilim University’s Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, the “Spinal Health Symposium 3: Current Approaches to Disc Herniations” was held on 27 March 2026 at the university’s conference hall with strong participation and considerable interest.
Disc herniations, commonly known as cervical and lumbar disc disorders, are among the most prevalent musculoskeletal conditions worldwide and may lead to pain, limited mobility, and a significant decline in quality of life. As one of the major causes of workforce loss, particularly among working-age individuals, this condition continues to highlight the growing importance of accurate diagnosis and up-to-date, evidence-based treatment approaches. In this context, multidisciplinary approaches that address both surgical and conservative methods are becoming increasingly important.
Held for the third time this year, the symposium was chaired by Prof. Dr. Serdar KAHRAMAN, Prof. Dr. Defne KAYA UTLU, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yıldız ERDOĞANOĞLU, bringing together distinguished surgeons, physiotherapy academics, and clinicians under one roof. The event stood out for its structure that fostered interdisciplinary collaboration.
With contributions from leading academics and clinicians, the symposium comprehensively addressed current diagnostic and treatment approaches to disc herniations, evidence-based surgical and conservative interventions, and rehabilitation processes. Presentations covered a wide spectrum of topics, ranging from cervical and lumbar disc herniations to sacroiliac joint pain, offering participants the opportunity to evaluate recent developments in the field from a multidimensional perspective.
Throughout the symposium, current scientific data on the pathophysiology of disc herniations, clinical assessment processes, conservative treatment options, and surgical indications were shared. In addition, pre- and post-operative rehabilitation practices, the impact of the biopsychosocial approach on treatment outcomes, and real case discussions were evaluated through a multidisciplinary lens.
In this regard, the event served as a strong scientific platform where theoretical knowledge met clinical practice. Bringing together healthcare professionals, academics, and students from different disciplines, the symposium contributed not only to knowledge sharing but also to strengthening professional interaction. Participants had the opportunity to closely follow current scientific developments and engage directly with leading experts in the field.
Through such high-quality scientific events in the field of health, Antalya Bilim University remains firmly committed to encouraging interdisciplinary approaches, promoting up-to-date evidence-based knowledge, and training the well-equipped healthcare professionals of the future.
