Born in Antalya, Mehmet Yumru completed his primary and high school education in Antalya. He studied at the Faculty of Medicine at Anadolu University from 1992 to 1999. From 1999 to 2002, he practiced as a general practitioner in Manavgat, Antalya. Between 2002 and 2007, he completed his residency in the Department of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine, Gaziantep University. He graduated with a thesis titled “Total Oxidant and Antioxidant Levels in Bipolar Disorder.” After completing his one-year mandatory service, he began working in Antalya. He passed his associate professorship exam in September 2013 and was appointed as an associate professor. In August 2020, he was appointed as a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Antalya Science University. He serves as a faculty member in the Clinical Psychology Master’s Program within the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Economics, Administrative, and Social Sciences at Antalya Bilim University. In terms of scientific output, he has a total of 54 published works—37 in international journals and 17 in domestic journals—as well as 10 books or book chapters, 60 oral and written presentations, and 5 national and international research awards in the field of psychiatry. He serves as an editor for the Turkish Journal of Clinical Psychiatry. As a psychotherapist, he provides training and treatment in the following areas: Psychodynamic-Oriented Supportive Psychotherapy, Psychotherapy for Sexual Dysfunctions, EMDR, and Hypnotherapy. Mehmet Yumru, who has held various administrative roles within the Psychiatric Association of Turkiye (PAT) and the Turkish Medical Association, is currently active within the Psychiatric Association of Turkiye. Between 2009 and 2011, he served as Secretary for Scientific Meetings on the PAT Central Executive Board. From 2014 to 2016, he served as Secretary-General on the PAT Central Executive Board. From 2021 to 2024, he served as a member of the Psychiatric Association of Turkiye’s Central Honorary Board. He currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Bipolar Disorders Association of Turkiye.
