Academic Integrity and Artificial Intelligence

This course lays the foundation for the analytical thinking skills and professional ethical awareness required of future civil engineers. It is fundamental that all homework, projects, and examinations submitted within the scope of this course must be the product of the student's own effort and original thought. The rules regarding the use of recently developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools (large language models, computational tools, etc.) in academic processes are specified below:Supportive Use: Artificial intelligence tools may be used as a "personal tutor/assistant" to comprehend course topics, clarify complex concepts, create study plans, or brainstorm ideas.Responsibility for Verification: In fields like structural analysis, which are based on strict mathematical and physical laws, AI models may produce erroneous results (hallucinations), incorrect moment diagrams, or faulty equilibrium equations. The responsibility for verifying the accuracy of any information generated by these tools rests entirely with the student.Prohibited Use (Academic Plagiarism): Having homework, projects, or exam-quality assessments completed directly by AI, or copying and pasting AI-generated content without any personal contribution, is considered a breach of academic integrity (plagiarism).Mandatory Citation and Transparency: If any AI tool was utilized during the preparation of projects or assignments (e.g., for checking formulas, writing code, or editing text), this must be explicitly declared in the "Acknowledgments" or "Methodology" section of the work, stating which tools were used and for what purpose.Important Note: Submissions that do not comply with academic integrity principles, are detected to be generated by AI, and do not contain the student's own original contribution will not be evaluated, and the provisions of the university's disciplinary regulations will be applied.
