OHS 502 Occupational Health

The notion of occupational health and safety; an integrated approach to occupational health and safety; risk prevention culture in the work place; the importance of safety culture and its role in daily life; construction and maintenance of safety culture; basic principles of occupational health and safety; the role of occupational health and safety in the operation of business enterprises; healthy and safe life.

OHS 503 Occupation Health and Regulations

The notion of occupational health and safety; an integrated approach to occupational health and safety; risk prevention culture in the work place; the importance of safety culture and its place in daily life; construction and maintenance of safety culture; basic principles of occupational health and safety; the role of occupational health and safety in the operation of business enterprises; healthy and safe life.

OHS 504 First Aid and Applied Training

The course includes topics such as general first aid knowledge; evaluation of the patient/injured and the scene of accident; basic life support applications for adults, children and infants; first aid in cases like bleeding, lacerations, fracture-dislocation, burn, heat stroke, poisoning, drowning etc.

OHS 505 Risk Management and Assessment

Notions of hazard and risk; Legal Regulations; Risk Analyses and Methods; Decision Matrix-Life Three-Failure Mode and Effect-Check List; Incident Tree Analysis; Solution Offers; Planning; Forms of Planning, Budgeting, Auditing and Control and their Preparation; Reporting; Inspection of Occupational Accidents; Expertise.

OHS 506 Occupational Health Epidemiology

The role and importance of epidemiology in occupational health; data sources in occupational health; health records in workplaces and health criteria used in workplaces.

OHS 507 Ergonomics

Worker-machine environment systems, their design and development, and their application to consumer products, systems, devices and work environment. Design of human performance based on their anatomical, physiological and psychological capacities and limits. Use of antropometric data in the design of indicators and controls. The impacts of environmental stress on the work environment, safety and health.

OHS 508 Working Psychology

In this course, students are introduced with various psychological processes that affect behaviors in workplaces, and the implementation of psychological theories and approaches in workplaces.

OHS 509 Occupational Hygiene

Skin anatomy; protection against harmful chemicals that can cause skin diseases; microorganisms; the world of germs; microscopic scale; microbial reproduction; cross contamination; personal hygiene; hand hygiene; toilet hygiene; the importance of hand washing in protection against contagious diseases; use of nail brushes, their importance in drying of hands; use of gloves in the right time and place; effective hand washing; the definition and importance of hygiene; information on bacteria, yeast, molds and viruses; useful pathogens; hygiene in work environment; hygiene in devices, materials and protective equipment and their effects; ways to fight with diseases; and required materials, items and systems.

OHS 510 Occupational Physiology

The definition and importance of physiology; notions of overload and strain; limit of continuous power; oxygen consumption; metabolic energy consumption; evaluation of a sample work activity and energy consumption; VAS Scale; Classification of work based on physiological response values; need for blood circulation in dynamic and static work; fatigue and resting; causes of fatigue; heavy and dangerous works; stress; biorhythm and the effects of working in shifts.

OHS 511 Building Management Systems

A detail analysis of all systems in a building such as elevators, escalators, air conditioning etc., and acknowledgement of their contribution to human life.

OHS 512 Fire Protection Methods

The objective is to teach students about what to do in the events of fire hazard or fire, and precautions to take against fire.

OHS 513 Occupational Health and Safety in Workplaces

Buildings; list of building operations; specific challenges in building operations; the state of construction sector in Turkey; statistics; construction area; projects; employers; subcontractors; project officers; utilized machines, tools, equipment, materials and work methods; preparation coordinator; application coordinator; health and security plan; list of works that carry occupational and safety risks; notifications regarding building operations; minimum health and safety conditions for construction areas.

OHS 514 Radiation Safety

The definition of radiation; electromagnetic waves and their properties. The dose and units of radiation. Use of radiation dose measurement devices. Biological effects of ionizing radiation. Early and late periods. Protection against radiation for employees and patients. Methods to protect the society and environment against radiation.  TAEK (Turkey Atomic Energy Authority) Radiation Safety Regulation. Other relevant regulations regarding radiation safety. Armoring in radiation departments. The structure of radiation safety committees. Creation and implementation of emergency plans.

OHS 515 Occupational Health and Safety in Working at Height

General rules of occupational safety in building operations, their applications and risks.

OHS 516 Occupational Health and Safety in Basic Law, Labor Law and Other Laws

The notion of law, functions of law, the differences of laws from other laws that regulate the social life; types of sanctions; branches of law; sources of labor law; individual labor law; collective labor law.

OHS 517 Occupational Accidents and Inquiry Process

Data on occupational accidents in the construction sector; causes of accidents; measures to be taken; legal liabilities that are imposed by the occupational safety law on employers and engineers; potential legal cases; inspection mechanism; fault distribution in occupational accidents; negligence distribution in occupational accidents; worker’s health and occupational safety management; relationship between occupational safety and engineering ethics; occupational responsibilities to employers, laws and other relevant parties; notions of trust and reliability; case studies; class discussions.

OHS 518 Health Supervision and Occupational Diseases

Students who have successfully completed this class can explain the notion of occupational diseases and work-related diseases, and analyze the causes of occupational diseases and work-related diseases.

OHS 519 Fire Safety, Inflammable and Explosive Environments and Protection

Denotation, labelling and classification of chemicals; carcinogenic, mutagenic and toxic materials; inflammable, explosive, hazardous and harmful chemical materials; explosive protection document and machines, equipment, asbestos and other fibrous chemical materials; relevant regulations.

OHS 520 Occupational Health and Safety in Construction Workplaces

Students are equipped with knowledge regarding occupational health and safety management, and the ability to use this knowledge in problem solving/implementation and interdisciplinary studies.

OHS 521 Industrial Occupational Hygiene

Provision and maintenance of hygiene in workplaces; toilet-bathroom hygiene; staff hygiene; hygiene in transportation and storage; cleaning materials; how to conduct the measurement, test and analysis of hygiene in workplaces.

OHS 522 Risk Factors and Protection Policies

Notions and rules of occupational health and safety; occupational health and safety in Turkey and around the globe; institutions of occupational health and safety; boards of occupational health and safety; occupational health and safety services; supervision of the workplace; occupational accidents and occupational diseases; risk management and risk analysis; physical risk factors; chemical risk factors; biological and psychosocial risk factors; ergonomics and protection politics; health and safety measures in works conducted with devices with screens; emergency plans; health and safety signs; personal protective equipment; occupational health and safety in electrical works; regulations on occupational health and safety.

OHS 523 Maintenance and Repair Management Systems

The notion, purposes and types of maintenance planning; maintenance planning system and organization; maintenance work; maintenance schedule and control; preventive and breakdown maintenance; maintenance dispersions and reliability; short-term and long-term maintenance policies; simulation in maintenance planning; one-group renewal; computerized maintenance management systems; environmental and occupational safety in maintenance.

OHS 524 Occupational Safety

Students who successfully complete this course can define concepts such as the basic principles of occupational health and safety, ergonomics and its role in occupational health and safety, protection methods in workplaces, emergencies and actions to be taken before and after emergencies.

OHS 525 Supervision of the Workplace and Personal Protective Equipment

It is aimed that students who successfully complete this course have knowledge about the relationship between work and health; protective health and safety works and basic health services; places of use and various types of personal protective equipment; legal regulations on personal protective equipment; and rules about the use of personal protective equipment at workplaces. They are also expected to be able to implement trainings on personal protective equipment at workplaces.
