This course teaches inventory management and optimization. Students will learn inventory management processes and best practices. The relationship between inventory management, service level and profitability will be explored. Students will learn about inventory control models, lot sizing, and performance metrics. Topics covered include inventory fundamentals, vocabulary, economic order quantity, just-in-time inventory, independent demand ordering systems, tracking, shipping and storing materials. Students will learn to analyze and control inventory.

This course introduces the students to the management of service operations (e.g., banking, transportation, government and tourism). BUSI 461 Organizational Development and Change
Organizational Development (OD) is a conscious, planned process of developing an organization’s capabilities so that it can attain and sustain an optimum level of performance as measured by efficiency, effectiveness, and health. Through the process of OD, we attempt to bring about successful change efforts in individual employees, groups and teams, inter-groups, and organizations as well.
Organizational change has become a fact of life in our dynamic business environment. This course examines the challenges associated with getting people to change their behaviour and their working practices. Often change efforts do not take hold or persist. This course will teach students how to manage change in order to decrease costs, improve efficiency, increase profitability and build competitive advantage. Students will come to understand how change affects individuals, teams and organizations, how leadership styles influence the change process. Students will understand the models of change management.

This course introduces the students to the methodologies for the analysis, design, and development of an information system. BUSI 424 Equity Capital Analysis and Evaluation
The aim of the course is to enable students to analyze firms' financial performances, evaluate their potentials and make valuations. The course is structured primarily from a business perspective, from the perspective of investors and analysts. However, this requires both a practical and a theoretical understanding. The course analyzes companies from a basic perspective to obtain the intrinsic value of stocks. Topics: Basic analysis, growth determination, discounted cash flow models, dividend discount models, free cash flow models and residual income models; relative valuation models including price gains and price book value multiples; valuation of private companies, estimation of discount rate, mergers and acquisitions and appraisal.

This course will provide students with an understanding of the principles, concepts, processes, tools and activities associated with total quality management. This course provides students with an understanding of how to organise, coordinate and manage quality systems. Topics covered include planning for quality, assuring quality, quality control, tools for process quality, improving quality, tools for product quality, quality audits, quality problem solving, quality management systems, six sigma approach, documenting quality management systems, benchmarking. Students will come to view quality as the result of systematic processes. “Quality is planned; not inspected.” The quality paradigm will be examined through the thinking of quality gurus like Deming, Juran, Feigenbaum, Crosby, Ishikawa and Imai.

This course sets out to identify and examine the causes of conflict and to offer a range of practical techniques for resolving disputes. Skilled negotiation is often crucial and this course introduces a proven approach that is used widely by professional mediators and negotiators. You will have the opportunity to explore and practice key ideas using presentation, self-assessment, role play and discussion in a friendly and informal group setting.
This course teaches participants how to manage emotions during conflict while working collaboratively toward a win/win resolution. Participants will complete a conflict style assessment, learn the five styles of conflict, and identify their dominant style. This course introduces positive conflict management processes, including active listening and communication skills, principled negotiation, mediation, arbitration, victim and criminal-offender mediation, and nonviolent direct action. Activities and exercises will help you develop your own conflict management skills.

This course provides an analytical perspective on the main issues in the management of people and organizations. Students learn to design contracts to achieve organizational goals. The questions discussed include: How are contracts used to attract the most appropriate employees to operate? Should payment be made based on performance or working hours? Is a contract better rewarding team performance based on its awards or individual performance? Information and evidence from social psychology have been used to complement the basic economic approach.

BUSI 484 Leadership and Team Development
Good leaders have always been expected to be able to solve new problems, capitalize on new opportunities and navigate through the ever-changing landscape of business. Leadership is a complex process by which the leader influences others to perform and achieve. The leadership attributes – belief, values, ethics, character, knowledge, and skills – are all traits, which can be learned. This course provides the basis for understanding what leadership is and what leaders do to be successful. This course will actively engage students in the acquisition of information about historical and contemporary theories, concepts, and issues associated with leadership. An interdisciplinary course designed to introduce the student to the tasks, strategies, and skills of effective leadership. Course activities will move the student from theory to the practical processes of leadership.
This course will also emphasize team building. Teambuilding, teamwork, and team leading draws information from a wide variety of disciplines to introduce students to the ever important topic of teaming. Topics include problem solving, meeting skills, and decision making. Students will learn techniques for creating cohesive groups, active listening, giving and receiving feedback, and criticism.

BUSI 492 Independent Study
The Independent Study Project or dissertation provides students with the opportunity to complete a substantial piece of work on an approved topic in Business Administration. The relevance to a course or courses taught in the degree must be made evident. The exercise of writing the dissertation is designed to give students the skills and experience to work independently and to prepare them for management careers and/or further academic study.
The topic must may be based on any one or more of the following approaches:
a. Original fieldwork;
b. The critical analysis of statistical material;
c. The critical analysis of research publications;
d. Original synthesis of material derived from secondary sources.
Each student will be assigned an academic supervisor who will give academic guidance of up to a maximum of 6 hours in total. The dissertation topic should be consistent with the degree title and approved by the supervisor. The length of the dissertation should not exceed 10,000 words.
