English Proficiency Exam 

English Proficiency Exam is an exam that proves that a student is proficient enough in English to study at his/her faculty. Therefore, students who successfully complete the B2 level are expected to pass this test. 

English Proficiency Exam is administered three times in an academic year. The first exam is conducted at the beginning of the new academic year (at the end of August or at the beginning of September); the second is conducted at the end of the first semester (at the end of the second module) in January; and the last one is conducted at the end of each academic year in June. Additionally, at the end of the Summer School, an English Proficiency Exam is organized for students who attend the Summer School. 

  1. Who can take the English Proficiency Exam in January? 
  • Students who cannot successfully complete B2 level in Module 2 but meet the 80% attendance requirement. 
  • Students who successfully complete B1 level in Module 2 and meet the 80% attendance requirement. 
  1. Who can take the English Proficiency Exam in June? 
  • Students who cannot successfully complete B2 level in Module 4 but meet the 80% attendance requirement. 
  • Students who successfully complete B1 level in Module 4 and meet the 80% attendance requirement. 
  1. Who can take the English Proficiency Exam at the end of the Summer School? 
  • Students who cannot successfully complete B2 level in the Summer School but meet the 80% attendance requirement. 
  • Students who successfully complete B1 level in the Summer School and meet the 80% attendance requirement. 
  • Students who did not attend the Summer School cannot take the English Proficiency Exam at the end of the Summer School.  
  1. Who can take the English Proficiency Exam at the beginning of the new academic year? 
  • All students who failed in the previous academic year's exam and new registered students with a level of B1 or higher according to the Placement Test can take the English Proficiency Exam at the beginning of the new academic year. 

English Proficiency Exam consists of 4 main sections; 

Reading (10 points): Students are expected to read two reading texts and answer multiple-choice and open-ended questions related to those texts. 

Listening (10 points): Students are expected to listen to two audio files (1 dialogue and 1 lecture) and answer multiple-choice and open-ended questions related to what they have heard. 

Writing (20 points): Students are expected to write a minimum of a 350-word essay about a given topic. 

Speaking (20 points): Students are expected to talk about 2 questions (2 minutes for each). 

Students achieving a score below 70 must continue their studies in the ELTP according to their level. 

Students who obtain the required scores from any of the internationally accepted exams stated below and document the exam results will be exempted from the ELTP. Those who cannot document their exam results and those with exam results whose validity period has been expired will take the English Proficiency Exam.
