The study titled “Parental Cumulative Trauma and Adolescent Psychological Adjustment: An Examination of Developmental Risk Processes Through Experiential Avoidance and Parental Control”, conducted by Çağla Çanakcı, a student in the Clinical Psychology Master’s Program with Thesis, under the supervision of Dr. Demet Kara, has been accepted as an oral presentation at the 3rd International Congress of Social Sciences.
The study aims to examine the effects of parents’ cumulative traumatic experiences throughout their lives on adolescents’ self-esteem through experiential avoidance and parenting processes. In the study, parental control is addressed in two dimensions: psychological control and behavioral control. Psychological control is evaluated as a developmental risk process, while behavioral control is considered within the scope of protective parenting processes.
The research also aims to contribute to the understanding of risky behaviors and juvenile delinquency processes that may emerge in adolescents by examining the relationships among trauma, parenting processes, and adolescent psychological adjustment from the perspective of developmental risk and protective processes.
