Tourism Experiential Learning Programme (TELP)
The Tourism Experiential Learning Programme (TELP) was a student exchange project carried out between 2021 and 2025. TELP aims to foster cooperation in education and training between Antalya Bilim University (ABU) Tourism Studies Application and Research Center (TURAM), partner universities in Turkic Republics such as Kazakhstan, and ABU's Partner Hotels (PH). The TELP student profile consists of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year university students; students under the age of 18 are not accepted into the programme.
Kazakh undergraduate students, who receive theoretical and applied training in tourism at ABU, use the TELP project to enhance both their academic development — including foreign language skills in Turkish and English — and their knowledge and experience of life and culture in Turkey, combining these with a genuine tourism experience. In this way, TELP contributes to the qualified workforce needed by the Kazakh tourism industry by adapting Turkey's tourism working culture and professional practices to Kazakh students, while also supporting Turkey's and the university's international promotional efforts. In addition, final-year TELP students are given priority — based on their performance during the programme — when applying for positions at our partner hotels upon their return to Kazakhstan.
During TELP, Kazakh students take the courses Turkish Language 1, Hygiene, Sanitation and Occupational Safety for Tourism, Historical Cities and Tourism, and the TELP Internship, in order to build their research skills, knowledge and experience. Students are required to keep an internship logbook throughout their placement. Their success in the internship course is determined jointly by their academic advisor at ABU (40%) and their department supervisor at the hotel (60%). Examinations are held for the other courses. Students who successfully complete their courses and internship are awarded a TELP Certificate of Participation.
When TELP applications open, students apply online by creating a registration here.
