Design Workshop with Damen Shipyards | 15 March 2024

On March 15, 2024, at 9:30 a.m., our department hosted Interior Architect Ülker Timuçin, the Yacht Interior Coordinator from Damen Shipyards, a significant figure in yacht design. Timuçin commenced her presentation by elucidating the fundamental aspects of yacht orientation. With these foundational insights, our students gained a better understanding of the layout and significance of various sections within a yacht during the design process. As Timuçin provided information about different sections of yachts, she elaborated on the placement plans of customer rooms, guest cabins, and crew quarters with examples. By offering detailed information on the diversity of materials used and their respective characteristics, she explained to students how material selection in yacht design is a strategic process.  Timuçin also discussed the design process of yacht interiors, emphasizing the impact of material and furniture choices on the overall aesthetics and functionality of the yacht. She particularly emphasized the critical role of furniture brand selection and furniture manufacturing in yacht design. The importance of selecting high-quality and appropriate furniture was highlighted, illustrating how it enhances the perception of luxury and influences interior comfort.

We extend our gratitude to Damen Shipyards Group and Ülker Timuçin for sharing these valuable insights with our students. This event served as an integral part of our student's education, enabling them to closely follow developments in the industry and enhance their professional skills.
