Interdisciplinary Talk on Autism Awareness | 18.11.2023

On November 18, 2023, at 20:00, our students were immersed in an educative and compelling interdisciplinary talk with Nergis NİDA, Manager of the Foundation of Autism. The discussion, titled "Autism Awareness and Spatial Needs of Children with Autism," delved into critical aspects often overlooked in Interior Architecture and Environmental Design.

Nida's expertise illuminated the challenges faced by children with autism in interior spaces, sparking inspiration among our students. They began to reevaluate their roles as future designers, recognizing the profound impact design can have on the daily lives of those with autism. The talk emphasized the urgent need for "design for all" principles, promoting sensory-friendly and inclusive designs to address the specific needs of this community.

For context, autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by challenges in social interaction, communication, and repetitive behaviors. Nida's insights not only enriched our students' understanding but also served as a call to action. Students are left with a heightened awareness of their responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the field, fostering a commitment to inclusive design. Our heartfelt thanks go to Nergis Nida for bridging the gap between theory and practice and providing insights that will undoubtedly shape our students' dedication to creating environments that embrace everyone.
