The Moving Kitchen: Design for Flow and Function
The Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture at Antalya Bilim University, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, has organized another significant event in support of professional development and in collaboration with the industry. As part of the course IAED 2152 Kitchen and Bathroom Design, coordinated by Lecturer Elif Cemre BAKKALOĞLU KÜÇÜKMOTOR, a Design Talk was held on April 16, 2025, via the Microsoft Teams platform. The guest speaker, Architect Başak BAKKALOĞLU, Co-Founder of Abra Design Studio, delivered an inspiring presentation titled "The Kitchen in Motion: Designing for Flow and Function," offering valuable insights to the participants.
The guest speaker, Architect Başak BAKKALOĞLU, delivered an inspiring presentation focusing on ergonomics, user habits, functionality, and spatial planning in kitchen design. She particularly emphasized how movement flow affects space planning, contemporary kitchen design trends, and sustainability criteria, offering students insights that bridged academic knowledge and industry practice.
Thanks to the interactive format of the session, participants had the opportunity to observe how design decisions are shaped through real-life projects. Hearing practical insights directly from a professional architect contributed significantly to broadening students’ professional vision. In the Q&A session at the end of the talk, participants were also able to ask questions and delve deeper into specific design details.
