On September 26, 2024, an orientation program was held for the first-year students who have newly joined the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at our university’s Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture. The program began with a detailed presentation introducing our department and providing students with fundamental knowledge about the discipline of interior architecture. The orientation presentation offered a comprehensive overview of the Interior Architecture and Environmental Design curriculum, covering practical, theoretical, and studio courses. This enabled students to meet a team of academics and industry professionals who are ready to guide them throughout their academic journey.
As part of the program, an interactive session was held to introduce the academic staff of the department. The Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture, Prof. Dr. Salih OFLUOĞLU, the Head of the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Dr. Buket ŞENOĞLU, the Vice Head of the Department, Dr. Yaren ŞEKERCİ, and the Department Secretary, Mustafa TUNA, delivered speeches.
During this phase, students were encouraged to express their professional ideas with justification, with a focus on improving their communication skills. The event also included a visit to the Chamber of Interior Architects (TMMOB İÇMO), which attained chamber status in 1976 and has been a fully authorized member of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI), the largest global organization in the field, since 2011. İÇMO Antalya Branch President Güner ONARAN, Board Member and İÇMO Youth Commission Chair Yalın ACUN, and Board Member Mustafa ARIKAN visited our department to share their knowledge and experience with the students.
This event was designed to provide students with a deep understanding and awareness of the interior architecture profession. It offered guidance on professional practices and ethics, highlighting the importance of the ethical rules and standards of the profession. The significance of national and international professional standards was emphasized, aiming to help students build a strong foundation for their professional lives. Additionally, the importance of developing technical proficiency, aesthetic sensitivity, and an awareness of functionality in professional practice was underlined.
As a result of this event, students were able to strengthen their understanding of professional ethics, business practices, and professionalism as they took their first steps into the interior architecture profession. We extend our gratitude to the members of the Chamber of Interior Architects (TMMOB İÇMO) for their longstanding contributions to the profession and for guiding our students on professional ethics and conduct. We also sincerely thank all our first-year students who participated in this meaningful orientation program, and we express our heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated academic staff who contributed to the program's success.
