The “Design Talk: Escape from Sofa” event, organized by the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Antalya Bilim University, was held on December 2, 2024, as part of the IAED 4103 Professional Practice and Portfolio course. Moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Başak KARADUMAN, the event featured Co-Founder and Industrial Product Designer Mahmut KEFELİ and Co-Founder and Interior Architect Kerem ERÇİN. The event provided interior architecture students with invaluable insights into professional life and helped them broaden their perspectives on the field.
The discussion covered key aspects of the design process and the importance of client relationships. It offered a valuable experience for students, enabling them to understand various dimensions of the interior architecture profession and learn methods used in professional practices. Projects from leading offices in the design world were highlighted, and students were given practical advice on establishing effective communication with clients and presenting their designs effectively.
The event also addressed challenges interior architecture students might face as they prepare for their professional careers, offering strategies to navigate these hurdles. It emphasized that client relationships are one of the most critical areas of professional practice. Students were taught the importance of analyzing client needs accurately and developing designs that align with these requirements. Additionally, methods for presenting designs effectively to clients were discussed in detail. The focus was on creating designs that not only hold aesthetic value but are also functional and in harmony with client expectations.
The event provided students with an opportunity to ask questions about professional life, gaining insights into potential scenarios they might encounter in the industry. This interaction went beyond theoretical knowledge, offering a learning experience grounded in practical applications.
By the end of the session, students were better equipped with the skills they will need in their professional lives and gained a more realistic perspective on entering the workforce.
