On February 11, 2025, students of the IAED 3001 Space Design Studio V course, conducted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Enes Can KILIÇ, Lec. Dr. Melda YILDIZ, and Res. Asst. Ferhat KOYUNCU, had the opportunity to closely examine interior architecture applications during a technical visit to Ava Antalya – Latin American Restaurant, one of the leading restaurants in Antalya. The main objective of the visit was to enable students to observe interior space design, material selection, seating arrangements, and their impact on user experience. The restaurant, distinguished by its unique oval floor plan, provided students with the opportunity to experience different spatial arrangements and evaluate how floor plan schemes influence user perception. During the technical visit, students thoroughly analyzed both the interior and exterior seating areas of the restaurant. The seating arrangement was examined in terms of its contribution to the functionality and comfort of the space, while the materials used on the facade were evaluated in detail, allowing students to understand the significance of material selection in restaurant design. Lighting design was also extensively covered during the visit. Analyses were conducted on natural light usage and how architectural lighting elements shape the indoor atmosphere, helping students comprehend the impact of interior lighting on spatial perception and user experience. The special event areas designed for various occasions within Ava Antalya were also examined by the students. The restaurant’s flexible design approach, which allows the transformation of spaces to meet different needs, provided valuable insights into spatial organization and multipurpose usage scenarios. In addition to examining the interior design of the restaurant, students also analyzed its relationship with surrounding buildings and commercial areas. The restaurant’s location, its interaction with nearby shops and structures, and its spatial integration within the urban fabric were evaluated. This provided students with the opportunity to observe how interior space design is connected to urban placement and accessibility dynamics. This technical visit significantly contributed to students’ practical knowledge in space design, material selection, seating arrangements, lighting design, and multi-functional usage principles within the IAED 3001 Space Design Studio V course. Additionally, it allowed them to observe how functionality and aesthetic concerns are balanced in a professional restaurant environment. By experiencing real-world design implementations, students gained valuable insights into their field, helping them develop a critical perspective and enhance their understanding of practical interior architecture applications.
