Spatial Analysis and Documentation: Technical Examination of Spatial Data

Students from the Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department at Antalya Bilim University, under the guidance of Lec. Dr. Arzu ÇAKMAK and Lec. Gamze AKYOL conducted a technical field trip to the Antalya Pil Factory on April 9, 2025, and April 16, 2025, as part of the IAED 3108 Interior Architecture Survey course. During this trip, students gained hands-on experience by taking on-site measurements and applying survey methods in designated areas. This process was of great importance for translating theoretical knowledge into practice. Throughout the field trip, students had the opportunity to enhance their skills in technical drawing and measurement accuracy through both individual and group work.

The students worked in pre-formed groups to carry out measurement and drawing tasks within their designated responsibilities. This process provided an important opportunity to strengthen teamwork, coordination, and communication skills. Using tools such as laser meters, hose meters, and tape measures, the students accurately collected spatial data. The accuracy of the on-site measurements played a crucial role in ensuring the technical adequacy of the drawings.

During the second site visit on April 16, 2025, students completed any missing measurements or reassessed areas based on the feedback they received during the first visit. This visit represented the review and validation phase of the survey process. By incorporating the feedback from the course, students refined their work and addressed previously identified gaps, further enhancing their practical skills.

The technical field trip to Old MKE Battery Factory provided students with the opportunity to develop their professional competencies in areas such as on-site measurement, teamwork, technical drawing preparation, and measurement verification. Conducting the survey in a real-world environment allowed students to apply theoretical knowledge and better understand how technical expertise functions in interior architecture design.

This experience significantly contributed to the educational process of the interior architecture students and helped reinforce the technical skills they will use in their future professional careers.
