On December 11, 2024, within the scope of the IAED 2503 Materials and Structures in Interior Design II course offered by Antalya Bilim University's Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, practical exploration of the relationship between building materials, construction technologies, and design continued under the guidance of Dr. Arzu ÇAKMAK, Canan BEDUR, and Kadir Emre BAKIR. In line with the course objectives, a comprehensive staircase manufacturing training was organized to enhance students' knowledge and experience related to circulation elements.
During the event, co-founders İlkay ŞEN and Sebahi DEMİRARSLAN shared their knowledge and expertise with the students. While İlkay ŞEN provided information on the organization of outdoor work, Sebahi DEMİRARSLAN focused on the technical details of staircase manufacturing.
Sebahi DEMİRARSLAN explained key considerations in the staircase production process, the concept of head clearance, and the functioning of structural systems through practical examples. He also provided detailed information on different staircase types, customer preferences, cost-increasing factors, and the materials used for structural supports and treads. Challenges encountered during the production process and their solutions were also discussed.
During the assembly phase, the team demonstrated the process of installing upper treads onto a steel staircase structure. Technical details such as the mounting of profiles onto the structural system were examined on-site.
Additionally, participants had the opportunity to observe how drawings are balanced using AutoCAD software and how theoretical knowledge is applied in practice. Throughout the training, the aim was to reinforce students' theoretical knowledge through hands-on experience.
This event, conducted in two sessions—morning and afternoon—provided students with extensive knowledge on building materials, staircase manufacturing technologies, and assembly processes. We extend our heartfelt thanks to İlkay ŞEN and Sebahi DEMİRARSLAN for their valuable contributions and insights!
