Influences on Furniture Design: From Classic to Modern
On April 21, 2025, second-year students from Antalya Bilim University’s Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design visited the Gabba Home Showroom as part of the IAED 2204 – History of Furniture Design course, led by Lecturer Gamze AKYOL. This event offered students the opportunity to combine their theoretical knowledge with practical experience and directly observe professional design processes.
The owners of the company, Architect Mücahit ÇELİK and Civil Engineer Metin ÇELİK, provided detailed information to the students about various seating groups, furniture designs, and lighting elements exhibited in the showroom. During this comprehensive presentation, students received practical insights into different types of materials, fabric options, production techniques, and design criteria. The products displayed at the Gabba Home Showroom represented successful examples of merging material usage and form with aesthetics in design. Students had the chance to walk through collections blending modern and classic styles, observing the spatial impact of different design approaches.
In the second part of the event, students were introduced to Gabba’s professional drawing and rendering software. Working with a predefined room layout, the company owners demonstrated step-by-step how selected furniture groups are placed within a space and how this arrangement is visualized. Participants observed how design concepts, faithfully adhering to real-world dimensions, are transformed into photo-realistic presentations using the rendering software. This hands-on demonstration not only provided technical knowledge but also offered critical insights into how design decisions are made in a professional showroom setting, how client expectations are addressed, and why visual presentations are crucial to the success of a design project.
At the end of the event, students had the opportunity to deepen their curiosity by asking questions to Mr. Mücahit ÇELİK and Mr. Metin ÇELİK. Thanks to their sincere and informative responses, students gained extensive knowledge about current industry trends, methods for developing designs to meet client demands, and the integration of technological tools into design processes.
We sincerely thank Architect Mücahit ÇELİK and Civil Engineer Metin ÇELİK for their valuable contributions to this enriching experience.
