Antalya Bilim University, Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design 3rd-year students carried out a creative design activity on Monday, October 6 2025, within the scope of the IAED 3001 Interior Design Studio V course conducted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Enes Can KILIÇ, Asst. Prof. Dr. Başak KARADUMAN, Lecturer Dr. Melda YILDIZ, and Res. Asst. Hakan BAL. Within the warm-up project framework, students were asked to create ceramic plate paintings reflecting the assigned cuisine culture.
During the study process, students focused on developing concepts appropriate to the cuisine culture they represented, analyzing cultural references, and translating this data into a design language. Students developed color palettes, form language, and graphic patterns suitable for their assigned cuisine culture and covered ceramic plate surfaces with original design compositions.
In order to support a holistic design approach within the restaurant project, students also developed menu designs. In this process, typography selection, visual hierarchy, alignment with brand identity, user readability, and graphic layout principles were addressed as key components of design decisions.
The activity aimed to develop students’ skills in conceptual design development, interpreting cultural context, establishing the relationship between material and surface design, and understanding the connection between two-dimensional graphic design and spatial design. At the same time, students had the opportunity to evaluate color theory, composition, user-centered design, and brand–space relationships within an integrated design approach.
This practice-based study supported students’ creative problem-solving skills, their ability to justify design decisions, and their capacity to transform design processes from concept to final product. The activity, conducted through an interdisciplinary design perspective, contributed to preparing students for real project processes.
The Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Antalya Bilim University continues to strengthen students’ professional competencies by supporting studio education with experiential learning methods and advancing practice-based approaches in design education.
