Field Trip to Antalya Archaeological Museum
On March 10, 2025, a field trip to the Antalya Archaeological Museum was organized within the scope of the course IAED 1202 History of Spatial Design I, under the supervision of Lec. Gamze AKYOL. This visit provided students with an interdisciplinary contribution to their professional and cultural development.
Themed "Fine Arts, Culture, and History," the event was accompanied by Dr. Uygar Ozan USLANMAZ, a Research Assistant from the Department of Archaeology at Akdeniz University. This guided tour went beyond exploring a space where historical artifacts are exhibited—it revealed how the museum space is constructed from an interior design perspective, showcasing exhibition strategies and the relationship between historical objects and their physical context.
During the museum visit, students gained comprehensive insights into spatial formations, furniture preferences, materials used, and color palettes of various civilizations, ranging from antiquity to the Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman periods. Elements such as seating arrangements from ancient times and ornamented wall surfaces were discussed within conceptual frameworks related to interior design history.
The event not only allowed students to observe spatial and aesthetic data from the past but also encouraged them to reflect on how these historical insights can be creatively reinterpreted within contemporary interior design practices.
By strengthening the interaction of interior architecture students with disciplines such as art history, cultural heritage, and spatial aesthetics, the visit once again highlighted the significance of historical data in design education.
We extend our sincere thanks to Research Assistant Dr. Uygar Ozan USLANMAZ from Akdeniz University’s Department of Archaeology for his invaluable contributions.
